Ingredients in Million Dollar Spaghetti
Meat: I like to use Italian sausage because it has a lot of flavor, but you can substitute ground beef or ground turkey if needed. If you were substituting sausage, I would recommend adding extra seasoning to the sauce.
Sauce: This recipe uses pasta sauce as the base to make it quick and easy. You can use homemade marinara sauce or your favorite jar of salsa. Feel free to add fresh herbs if you like!
Cheese: The cheese layer is made with cottage cheese or cottage cheese. I prefer ricotta because I think it adds so much creaminess to the recipe.
Pasta: We often prepare it with spaghetti but other types of pasta can also be used. Try the ziti or rigatoni.
Serving Tips
Million Dollar Spaghetti is a hearty dish that makes for a complete meal on its own. If you like, you can pair it with garlic bread and a fresh salad.
Leftovers and preparation in advance
Leftovers from this casserole reheat well! The dough softens a little when reheated, but the flavor is as good as fresh out of the oven.
Prepare in advance: Million Dollar Spaghetti Casserole can be made up to 24 hours ahead. Remove it from the fridge at least 30 minutes before baking and add another 15 minutes to the cooking time.
Freezing: To freeze the casserole, first wrap it in cling film, then in foil. Leave it to thaw overnight in the refrigerator before baking.
