- Are you looking for a soft and sticky homemade cinnamon roll that works;

📃Ingredients and substitutions
Blood oranges. The protagonists of this recipe, blood oranges have a taste that is a cross between navel orange and raspberry, and a beautiful pink color.
you can use navel oranges instead of blood oranges.
All purpose flour. I always use unbleached all-purpose white flour for my cinnamon rolls and have never tried adding whole wheat flour or baking them with other flours.
Almond milk. It can be replaced with oat milk, cashew milk or any vegan milk for a vegan version. If you don’t make it dairy-free, you can replace it with milk.
Margarine. Any vegan margarine will work. If you don’t make it vegan, you can substitute butter.
See the recipe card for complete information on ingredients and substitutions.
🥣How to do it
Making orange and cinnamon rolls is easier than it seems! If you have a stand mixer to knead the dough, be sure to use it.
Step 01. Mix the dry ingredients, add the wet ingredients and knead for 6 (if using a stand mixer) to 10 (if using a stand mixer) minutes. Leave to rise for 1h30.
Step 02. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon.
Step 03. Open the dough into a rectangular shape, ¾ inch thick if you prefer fewer swirls and a softer roll, ¼ inch thick if you like lots of swirls and chewier rolls.
Step 04. Brush the dough with the softened margarine.
Step 05. Distribute the filling evenly, leaving a margin of about 1 centimeter along the long side. This helps seal the roll closed.
Step 06. Roll out the dough, pinching the edge to seal it. Cut the dough into 1 ½-inch rolls, placing each roll on a lined baking sheet.
Slicing tips these scrolls:
- Use a very sharp knife, serrated knife, or unflavored dental floss.
- If you use a bladedon’t press too hard to avoid the dough losing its shape: let the blade do most of the work.
- If you use dental flossslide a long piece of string under the dough, wrap it around the top, and pull it tightly in opposite directions, so the string can pass through it.
Step 07. Cover the rolls and let them rise for about 45 minutes, or until they appear light and puffy. Cook for 25 minutes at 350°F.
Step 08. Mix all the icing ingredients using a whisk.
Step 09. Pour the pink icing immediately after making the buns. Wait a few minutes for it to solidify before serving.
✔️Advice from the experts
- During cold days, the dough may take longer to rise. If you don’t have a hot spot in your kitchen, you can let the dough rise for a longer time than suggested in this recipe.
- Use ingredients at room temperature and warm milk (not hot!), especially when baking during the winter.
- For easy cleaning: let the dough rest in an oiled bowl.
- Don’t forget to flour the surface on which you will work the dough. It makes the dough easier to handle and prevents it from sticking.
- Fill your rolls from edge to edge. You need to fill the entire dough from side to side. Don’t leave any side blank except a small portion along one of the long edges.
🙋🏻♀️Questions you may have
Yes they can. Baking them next to each other makes the cinnamon rolls softer, since they will have less crust.
Yes, they can be prepared in advance. For overnight rolls, immediately after cutting and placing them in the pan, cover and refrigerate. The next day let them rest out of the fridge for 1 hour before baking them.
Yes, just omit the cinnamon when making the filling.
🫙Store and freeze
Store your blood orange cinnamon rolls in an airtight container, at room temperature and out of direct sunlight. Always keep your sandwiches covered to prevent them from drying out. They are good for 2 or 3 days.
To reheat, using the microwave, 15 to 20 seconds are generally sufficient for 1 or 2 sandwiches.
To freeze, wait until the sandwiches cool completely. Place them in an airtight freezer-safe bag and store in the freezer for up to 3 months.

ingredients
Instructions
In a large bowl, or in the bowl of a stand mixer if you use one, mix the flour, sugar, salt and yeast. Add the zest and juice of the blood orange, the warm almond milk and the margarine. Mix until the dough forms.
On medium-low speed, using the dough hook, knead for 6 minutes or until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl. Once ready the dough will be smooth and sticky to the touch. If kneading by hand, knead for about 10 minutes.
Let rise in a warm place for 1 hour and 30 minutes, or until doubled.
For the filling, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
Line a 9x9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
Lightly flour the surface you will use to open the dough. Roll the dough into a 14x20 inch rectangle. Open it ¾ inch thick if you prefer fewer curls and a softer roll, ¼ inch thick if you prefer lots of curls and chewier rolls.
Brush the entire surface of the dough with 1 ½ tablespoons of margarine. Distribute the filling evenly over the surface of the open dough. Remember to leave a 1 inch margin along the long side to make it easier to seal the dough.
Roll out the dough, pinching the edges to seal it.
Cut the dough into 1 ½-inch rolls and place each roll on the prepared baking sheet. Leave enough space between each to allow them to grow properly – ¼ inch is more than enough.
Cover them with a damp cloth or cling film and let them rise for 45 minutes. They will look light and puffy.
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Bake the rolls for 25 minutes, until lightly browned on top.
Remove from the oven and let them cool for 10 minutes before starting the frosting.
Sift the icing sugar and mix it with the margarine, blood orange juice and zest. Mix until well combined.
Immediately pour the glaze over the buns. Serve them hot.
