Cut the pumpkin or squash into pieces larger than bite size (you can cut them into any size you like). Clean the seeds inside and peel the pumpkin pieces. Place them in a large pan and distribute the sugar evenly over the surface.
Leave them to rest for 3-4 hours, so that the sugar dissolves. After seeing the sugar melt, place the pan over medium-low heat and cook for 40-50 minutes until the pumpkins are dark in color. The water should be mostly drained.
When they have cooled down; garnish them with thickened cream, walnuts, pecans or any type of dried fruit.

Wait 3-4 hours for the sugar to melt, place the pan on low heat and cook for about 40-50 minutes until the color of the pumpkins darkens. Most of the water will have evaporated.
When the pumpkin dessert has cooled; Serve with nuts or other dried fruit of your choice.
