This bright and airy spot, specializing in Sichuan and Hunan dishes, is located just around the corner from Ron Shu Xia, on the ground floor of a glitzy apartment/office building where Asian immigrants live and work. “Since 2024” the sign outside proudly proclaims, and let’s hope it’s here to stay. The dishes are well seasoned and the portions are generous. While the he wants tofuthe litmus test for any Sichuan cuisine, it is very good, the other soy cake dish offered, a pressed, meaty tofu with pork in an aromatic brown sauce, was more unusual and quite satisfying. The eggplant in “fish sauce” (a sauce FOR fish, which didn’t contain it) was crisp and bright, its red and green peppers as cheerful as a Christmas display. And the pork in spicy sauce turned out to be as “Chengdu” as possible, slices of tender pork and bok choy swimming in an oily sauce meant to be spread on rice and full of “ma/la” that divine combination of chilies and Sichuan peppercorns that numb the tongue.
