Pinoy cooks really love playing with rice, which probably comes from the natural love we have for this handy ingredient. This is why we have adapted many great independent rice dishes, such as paella. But what if you paired this flavorful classic with a tasty Filipino dish? This is where our Sisig Paella comes in!
Sisig Paella
This recipe is the answer to your simultaneous craving for tasty sisig and rich paella. As I said before, it is essentially the combination of two much loved dishes. Sisig uses many parts of the pork, which we then chop for an easy-to-eat and absolutely delicious meal. We have the flavors of onions and chili peppers for a touch of spice that isn’t too heavy.
On the other hand, we also use techniques to create paella. This is a recipe based mostly on rice and a long list of delicious ingredients. This can include seafood, vegetables and meat. It originates from Spain, but has slowly become a worldwide phenomenon. The Philippines, in particular, is one of the countries that has appreciated it the most with its fair share of local deliveries. And one of the best, in my opinion, is this perfect twist between two adorable recipes.
What does paella sisig taste like?
Hearty, meaty and completely irresistible, you can expect a feast of flavors in this Sisig Paella. However, I understand if there is any concern about the spiciness I mentioned earlier. But in reality this won’t matter much because we won’t be using every single ingredient often used in sisig. After all, we don’t want an excessive amount of flavor in the overall recipe.
But you can expect just the right amount of saltiness and umami flavor from seasonings and spices like onion, garlic, Know Liquid Seasoning and more. There’s also a good variety of textures with the satisfying crunch brought by sliced peppers and some soft quail eggs. Here’s a look at what you’ll need to buy on the market for this recipe!
Ingredients of Paella Sisig
Bacon
You can’t have the classic sisig without some pork belly. We will need 1 lb for this recipe, and as for the preparation of the ingredient, you will first have to grill the pork. Next, cut it into cubes to obtain pieces of meat suitable for our sisig.
Knorr Pork Cube
The key to a great paella is the perfect mix of seasonings and spices to really bring out the flavor of the rice. That’s why we’ll need it 1 Knorr pork cube in completing the dish.
Chorizo from Bilbao
Our meat ingredients don’t stop with pork belly. Since we are making paella, you will definitely need some Chorizo de Bilbao to give a unique and delicate spice to our dish. And since we usually just mix it into our rice, you’ll need to dice it up 1 piece for the recipe
Quail eggs
For a little protein and a satisfying, savory taste, scoop up 5 quail eggs. The size of these smaller eggs is perfect as they mix well with our diced ingredients and aren’t too flavorful that they overpower the dish.
Paella rice
This is already a fact, but you will need it 2 cups paella rice.As for the specific type of rice we use for this, there are several varieties that might work. But I would definitely recommend opting for short grain rice to really go the authentic route. And if you can get your hands on them, the best kind would be Bomba Rice.
Knorr liquid seasoning
For an additional sense of flavor in our rice, we will need 3 teaspoons Knorr liquid seasoning.
Waterfall
And since we’re working with rice, you’ll definitely need some water. Exactly 3 1/2 cups they are necessary for this dish.
Green onions
This is the perfect seasoning for your Sisig Paella. Prepare ¼ cup green onionswhich we will also cut.
Smoked paprika
Paella has Spanish origins, so you can expect the flavors of the beloved cuisine to be reflected in this dish. One of the essential ingredients for this is smoked paprika with its notes of spice and sweetness.
Long green pepper
We also have a good variety of vegetables in this dish. You will need 2 long green peppersthat we have to slice.
Red pepper
And for a little crunchy sweetness, you should have it too ¼ cup red bell pepper in hand. Then we can chop them and add them to our delicious paella rice.
Onion
Go ahead and chop 1 onion also to add seasoning.
Garlic
And we will also get 4 cloves of garlic for this dish Just like with our onion, we will have to chop these segments.
Kitchen oil
Luckily, this dish won’t be too oily. We will only use 3 tablespoons cooking oil for Sisig Paella
Lemon
A touch of refreshing spiciness is always welcome in a dish. Obtain 1 lemon, which we must cut into segments.
Seasoning ingredients
Mayonnaise chosen by the lady
An important factor in preparing a great sisig dish is rich and flavorful seasoning. And to make everything nice and creamy, we’ll use a little mayonnaise. Set aside ¾ cup Lady’s Choice mayonnaise for the seasoning.
Knorr liquid seasoning
Another delicious addition to our seasoning, Knorr Liquid Seasoning is perfect for adding more salt. That’s why we also use it for our paella rice, as mentioned before. Use only 2 and a half teaspoons for the seasoning.
How to prepare Sisig paella
Step 1: Prepare and brown the meat
First, we need to make sure that the meat components we work with are nice and cooked, but not burnt either.
- Onion and Garlic – Start by pouring cooking oil into the pan or pot and letting it heat up. Now we can add our onion and garlic. And then fry these ingredients together until we have softened the onion.
- Cook the meat – Now add the chorizo, pork belly and Knorr Pork Cube to the mix. We will sauté what’s in our pan again, but only for 1 minute. Then add the paella rice and continue cooking, mixing everything. Do this for 1 minute.
Step 2: Cook the rice
We’ve already put the rice in the pot, so we just need to add a few more ingredients to liven up the flavor of the paella rice.
- Water, seasoning and pepper – Put all the water in the pot. Add your Knorr liquid seasoning and red pepper and mix everything together.
- Let the rice cook – Place the lid on top and let the heat do the work. Once the rice is ready, we can proceed to the next step.
Step 3: Add additional seasonings
- Seasonings – At this point, you can put green onions on top. Also crack open the eggs and use them to garnish the rice like our green onions. We will also incorporate our long green peppers, and then we will cover the pot as before.
- Keep cooking for 2 minutes.
Step 4: Work on the dressing
While we wait, you can go through the very simple process of preparing your dressing.
- Mix the dressing ingredients – Combine Lady’s Choice mayonnaise and Knorr liquid dressing in a container and mix well.
- Top the dish with the seasoning – Now, once the two minutes of cooking have passed, you can take the satisfying step of sprinkling the seasoning all over the dish.
- Finish with lemon – Finish everything by placing the lemon wedges on the Sisig Paella.
